=== F1 Game Crashes ===
=== Game Crashing - Network Instability ===
Description: Players sometimes have random situations where in a multiplayer game they will randomly start lagging, go asynchronous (async) or timeout.
Possible Causes, Test & Resolutions:
'''1. Network Connection Instability'''
a: Wifi Connection: '''DO NOT''' play on Wifi as this results in increased latency and packet loss that results in random disconnections/timeouts, games going async and even worse random game crashing.
Cause: The game uses the network protocol [https://www.javatpoint.com/tcp-vs-udp#:~:text=TCP%20is%20slower%20than%20UDP%20as%20it%20performs,The%20size%20of%20the%20UDP%20is%208%20bytes. UDP] which does not acknowledge data transmission. This means any brief loss of connectivity will result in data loss that is unrecoverable by the game resulting in the aforementioned issues.
Resolution: connect to you network directly via an [https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ethernet+cable Ethernet cable] into a switch our directly to the router.
b: Internet Connection:
Test: Click [https://packetlosstest.com/ here] to test and see if your internet is experiencing any packet loss.
Suggested Settings:
Preset - Default.
Server - Whichever is closest.
Duration - 60 Seconds.
Cause: There are a number of things that can cause this, it can range from Network congestion (too many using internet), a bad cable or a "fault" with your switch/router.
Resolution: Take a screenshot of your results and also download them as a CSV (see bottom of results page). Once you have these, speak further to a member of the InsideEARTH community on [https://discord.gg/yxtzdUZ Discord] further support in resolving your issue.

Game Crashing - when trying to start Skirmish/Host MP/Start Camp

Description: The Game loads and no matter what resolution or settings are used, if you try to start a Campaign, Skirmish or Multiplayer game and get as far as selecting your profile, the game crashes to desktop immediately once you click "Enter the Game" or "Start Game".
Fix:
1. Open Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers and or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
3. search for the game executable and and insert a SPACE between two words in a registry key:
before: DISABLETHEMES HIGHDPIAWAREDisableNXShowUI
after: DISABLETHEMES HIGHDPIAWARE DisableNXShowUI
4. now start the game and it will no longer crash.

Game Crashing - FMV intro or cutscene should be played but instead crashes the game

Description: When the game trys to play an FMV video it crashes the game back to desktop.
Possible Fix's:

COMPATAILITIY MODE
Try running the game in compatibility mode, IE: Windows XP with Service Pack 2

UNINSTALL YOUR CODEC PACK, RESINTALL THE GAME, INSTALL A DIFFERENT CODEC PACK, IF NEEDED
In case your current codec pack is interfering with the game, uninstall any codec packs you have installed (through Control Panel -> Programs and Features). Afterwards, reinstall the game.
If that doesn't work, please try to install a different codec pack, for example: K-Lite.

IF THE GAME USES .BIK FILES, INSTALL RAD VIDEO TOOLS
To check if the game uses .bik files, search for this file type in the game's installation folder.
If you find such files, please install the Bink Video Codec and try launching the game afterwards
http://www.radgametools.com/bnkmain.htm

ADD FFDSHOW AUDIO/VIDEO EXCEPTIONS
If you're using ffdshow (which is included in pretty much every codec pack), try adding add the game's executable to ffdshow's exclusions list - first in just the Video decoder, then, if that doesn't help, the Audio decoder as well.
To do this, you will need to access ffdshow's settings. You should be able to find an appropriate link in your codec pack's Start Menu group. For instance, for CCCP it would be Start -> Programs -> Combined Community Codec Pack -> Filters -> FFDShow Video Decoder Configuration. You should find FFDShow Audio Decoder Configuration as well.
Once in the Video Decoder's settings, go into "DirectShow control" and find the "Don't use ffdshow in:" setting and make sure it's checked. Click on the "Edit" button in front of it, then click the "add" button and browse to the game's executable file in the game's folder.
Now launch the game and check if the problem persists. If it does, add the executable in the Audio Decoder Configuration as well. If none of them help, you should go back and remove the exceptions.

CHECK DIFFERENT COMPATIBILITY MODES
Right-click the game's shortcut, go to Properties -> Compatibility and try different compatibility modes before attempting to launch the game again.
If none of these help, revert to the default setting, or reinstall the game if you don't recall which setting was the default one.

(WINDOWS XP ONLY) REDUCE GRAPHICS AND/OR SOUND HARDWARE ACCELERATION
First, try different graphics acceleration settings. This is only possible on Windows XP and may fix some unusual game glitches.
To do this, right-click an empty area on your desktop and go to Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot, then try different Hardware Acceleration levels. We suggest starting with the third position from the right.
If the graphics acceleration settings don't help, revert to the default (maximum) setting, and try different settings of your sound card's "Hardware acceleration" and "Sample rate conversion quality" (starting with Hardware Acceleration). To access those settings, go to your Control Panel, double-click "Sounds and Audio Devices", click the bottom "Advanced..." button and go into the "Performance" tab.
If none help, revert to the default (maximum) settings.

Game Crashing - DEP

Description: Players sometimes have random situations where the game loads but crashes or even fails to load.
Fix: these have often been resolved through adding the game executable to DEP (Data Execution Prevention).
*Process - Open "Computer" then right click -> Properties -> System Protection -> Advanced -> Performance -> Data Execution Prevention then "Add" the executable for the game. Not the shortcut but the .exe file.

Game - Full Screen / Window Mode Issues

Description: A player finds the game running in window mode/title bar when full screen is selected in setup.
Fixes:

1. Implement the relevent IEO updates as they contain the fixes.

Game - Resolution Limit

Description: Older Direct3D applications and games are limited to a resolution width/height that doesnt exceed 2048 pixels.
Fix: Download and place the following DLL next to the game executable to remove this artificial limitation.

Game - Mouse Cursor Issues

Description: Some players experience mouse cursor jitter/jumping/lag issues.
Workarounds:
1. Install the Mouse Fix found on the Applications page.
2. install an alternative Graphics mode like WineD3D or 3Dfx

Game - Mouse Cursor is upside down

Description: The Mouse cursor is displayed upside.

This is due to windows scaling
Right click the game executable (.exe.), select properties, compatibility, change Hih DPI settings, then set to application:

Game - Ingame Video and or Audio do not display/play, how do i fix this?

You need to have Indeo Coded installed.

1. You can install it by running as administrator following command (WinVista and newer):
cd C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64
regsvr32 ir50_32.dll

2. You can install the K-Lite Codec Pack, which includes Indeo Codec to enable vidoes to play within game

Game - Unable to enter Multiplayer menu right after selecting profile, game throughs me back to profile selection menu immediately

Make sure you have installed DirectPlay component on your PC. Press Win+R, type optionalfeatures and press Enter, then expand Legacy Components and make sure DirectPlay is checked.

Game - Keyboard/Text Input

Description: Certain PC configurations result in an issue where its difficult or impossible to write text in game.
